Sean Ashe + Matt Hopper
We both sing. We both have our own songs and records behind us. Ashe / Hopper is what happens when we put that history into one set, then add a drummer or a band when the gig deserves one.
Guitar / vocals / arrangements
Sean makes instrumental guitar records, teaches, produces, and works in live sound. He released Spark Under Water in 2024; Matt sings on "Conquerer." In this band Sean plays guitar, sings, and pays attention to details most people should never have to think about.
Songs / guitar / vocals
Matt has spent years writing songs, making records, touring, and fronting bands. His musical neighborhood includes rock, folk, blues, Americana, and the kind of pop song that still works with one guitar. In Ashe / Hopper he sings, plays guitar, and brings the instincts that come from playing a lot of rooms.
What you can count on
There are easier ways to fill three sets than caring about every song. We have not found one we enjoy. The list has familiar covers, a few originals, and guitar parts that give both of us a reason to be there.
Set times, volume, power, stage space, load-in, rain plan. None of it is glamorous. All of it matters when people are waiting for a show to start.
Some nights should stay small. Some need a drummer. A bigger room may need bass too. We recommend the lineup we would want to hear in that situation.
How we handle covers
We keep the part that makes the song recognizable, then work out what two guitars and two voices can do with it. Add drums and the arrangement changes again. The point is to play the song, not reenact the studio session.
